Parents Active for Vision Education (P.A.V.E.) was founded by Marjie Thompson in 1988 as an educational non-profit resource and support organization. Her inspiration was her experience as a parent, her son’s struggle in school, and the effect of his undiagnosed vision problems.
P.A.V.E. grew nationally with the mutual support of parents, educators, and other professionals who knew children who were struggling due to undiagnosed vision problems. After being evaluated by developmental/behavioral optometrists who test and diagnose learning related vision problems, the children were treated with Optometric Vision Therapy, which proved to be crucial for their academic success.
P.A.V.E.’s mission is to raise public awareness of the crucial relationship between vision and achievement.
To further our mission and to expand the reach of P.A.V.E., we are proud to welcome John Walker as our new President.
John has experience as the Executive Director for the non-profit organization Insight Vision Center, as well as being a patient in vision therapy both as a child, and again as an adult. Through his work with Insight Vision Center, John is familiar with P.A.V.E.’s mission and the important work ahead.
P.A.V.E.’s goal is to strengthen our outreach, to broaden the knowledge and appreciation for developmental/behavioral optometry and Optometric Vision Therapy and its benefits for all ages.
